The End - A Poem

2010 so far seems to be a series of endings
and yesterday I saw the ending of another one.

The thing with endings is that although painful,
it can also be the start of something new.

Life is about change, learning, love, pain and growth.

Its about letting go of pain, fear and tears,

the end is another way to having a new beginning.

The End

It came as a surprise,

when it came to an end,

something that I believed would last,

but i guess sadly not.

My heart has slowly broken,

as the door has slowly close,

its over, really over,

so its goodbye,

it was great while it lasted.

The Recession 101 messages are being presented on backdrops designed to look like lined notepad paper, mounted on digital billboards, traditional billboards, posters and street furniture. If you ask me i think its a great idea, we all should try to think and be more positive about our economic future.

The Flatiron Building, or Fuller Building, New York City

The Flatiron Building, or Fuller Building as it was originally called, is located at 175 Fifth Avenue in the borough of Manhattan, and is considered to be one of the first skyscrapers ever built. Upon completion in 1902 it was one of the tallest buildings in New York City. The building sits on a triangular island block at 23rd Street, Fifth Avenue, and Broadway, anchoring the south (downtown) end of Madison Square.The neighborhood around the building is called the Flatiron District after its signature building, which has become an icon of New York

Grand Central Station - Main Hall - New York City

The Main Concourse is the center of Grand Central. The space is cavernous and usually filled with bustling crowds. The ticket booths are here, although many now stand unused or repurposed since the introduction of ticket vending machines. The large American flag was hung in Grand Central Terminal a few days after the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The main information booth is in the center of the concourse. This is a perennial meeting place, and the four-faced clock on top of the information booth is perhaps the most recognizable icon of Grand Central. Each of the four clock faces is made from opal, and both Sotheby's and Christie's have estimated the value to be between $10 million and $20 million. Within the marble and brass pagoda lies a "secret" door that conceals a spiral staircase leading to the lower level information booth.

Designed by Moorhead & Moorhead for the Times Square Alliance, Ice Heart is a 10 foot tall heart constructed of masonry scaled blocks of ice. Kaleidoscopic in nature, the ice blocks pick up the lights, colors and activity of Times Square, feeding off its natural chaos.
Ultimately Ice Heart is a celebration of the temporary nature of the Times Square Valentine installation. Left to run its own course, the heart will slowly transform, as it melts, eventually disappearing completely.
The Art Review Committee of the Times Square Alliance selected Ice Heart from four invited submissions (the other finalists were Aranda/Lasch, Situ Studio and su11). The committee included Barry Bergdoll, MoMA; Tom Finkelpearl, Queens Museum of Art; RoseLee Goldberg, Performa; Cora Cahan, The New 42nd Street; Marvin Davis, Davis Reality and Jennifer Lantzas, NYC Parks.
Ice Heart will be installed in Times Square, at 46th and Broadway, on the morning of February 11th.

Moorhead & Moorhead
Moorhead & Moorhead is a New York-based architecture and industrial design studio, formed in 2000 by brothers Granger and Robert Moorhead. The firm's projects range in scale from furniture to exhibit design to architecture. At the core of the work is an interest in materials.
Recent project include furniture designs for furniture manufacturer lerival, exhibits for the Center for Architecture, as well as a range of residential commissions in and around the City.
The brothers' work has been widely published and exhibited, both in the US and abroad. In 2006 they were included in the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum's triennial survey, Design Life Now; and in 2008 they were named Emerging Voices by the Architectural League of New York.

The Empire State Building is a 102-story landmark Art Deco skyscraper in New York City at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street. Its name is derived from the nickname for the state of New York, The Empire State. It stood as the world's tallest building for more than forty years, from its completion in 1931 until construction of the World Trade Center's North Tower was completed in 1972. Following the destruction of the World Trade Center in 2001, the Empire State Building once again became the tallest building in New York City and New York State.

Chrysler Building, New York City

Chrysler Building was the world's tallest building from 27 May 1930 to 1931

The Chrysler Building is considered a masterpiece of Art Deco architecture. The distinctive ornamentation of the building based on features that were then being used on Chrysler automobiles. The corners of the 61st floor are graced with eagles, replicas of the 1929 Chrysler hood ornaments; on the 31st floor, the corner ornamentation are replicas of the 1929 Chrysler radiator caps. The building is constructed of masonry, with a steel frame, and metal cladding. In total, the building currently contains 3,862 windows on its facade and 4 banks of 8 elevators designed by the Otis Elevator Corporation. The building was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976.

Don't you just love the streets of New York City?

The architecture, the sense of its history, the vibe and heart beat of the city. It's like being in your own New York movie set.

I guess you get the sense that I love New York City, the concrete jungle where dreams come true.

Times Square - New York City - USA

The world famous Times Square has changed a great deal since my last visit in 2005.

It has now been redeveloped to be more pedestrian friendly and boy what a difference it has made. Its more tourist friendly and as you can see I took the opportunity to take a few pictures!

Breakfast at Roxy Delicatessen - Time Square

One thing New York is famous for is its breakfast, my day started with a large breakfast at the world famous Roxy Delicatessen! Roxy's provides a wide range of items on its menus, ranging from Sandwiches, Breakfasts, and burger and fries. I had a nova scotia omelette and it was really delicious and set me up for the day.
