Dia del Burros - Festival of the Donkey

Today is Easter Sunday and I wish you and your loved ones a great Easter.
Gloria from Gloria's Spanish View recently sent me some great photo's of a Spanish festival which occurs just before Easter.
Dia del Burros is a festival in Spain which celebrates the role the donkey had in the birth of Christ. As you can see in the pictures below a statue of the donkey is carried around the streets and followed by a band playing music.

Children dress in clothes similar to Palestinians back in the old bibilical days and many people hold small bales of wheat.
Last year Queen Sofia demonstrated her love for animals during a visit to a foundation for the protection of donkeys in the southern Spanish province of Cordoba. The queen baptised the few months old donkey ‘Lluvia’ (rain).
