Today I woke to discover that it is President Obama's first 100 days as President. Its seems like a distant memory of when President Bush was in office. How things have changed in just 100 days!
The image of America has been altered dramatically for the better. He has injected a sense of hope and positive energy into his policies. He has spoken about the Muslim world in a positive light and sought to relations with nations that was once considered enemies.
The announcement of the closure of Guantanamo Bay was a positive step towards an improvement of human rights and civil liberties. To admission and banning of torture is an another indication of a move away from the Bush years.
Other milestones acheived are:
Ban on abortion funds lifted
Obama unveils executive pay cap
Stimulus plan signed into law
Obama outlines Iraq pullout plan
Obama ends stem cell funding ban
Iran offered a 'new beginning'
Obama promotes nuclear-free world
Cuba offered 'new beginning'
On a lighter note the introduction of the new First Puppy, Bo. A Portuguese water dog was seen around the world.
Time will tell how successfully he will be, but in the meantime it appears that he is doing a good job. With the current economic climate in recession, the Swine flu and the war on terror President Obama has a lot on his plate. I am sure he will rise to the challenge and has my support.
His recent trip to London for the G20 meeting was a personal highlight for me, I had the opportunity to hear him speak.
I love the last picture of you, you look so proud...well, I have dragged my arse out of bed, posted a blog and checked yours, its great... as soon as Dave gets in I'm back to bed...i feel terrible!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouraging post. I'm glad to know that our standing in the world is changing for the better. I love this country, but I spent much of the last 8 years feeling pretty embarrassed of our leadership.
ReplyDeleteThank you fr your comment - you have missed and I hope that life is treating you well.
ReplyDeleteYes the image of the USA has been vastly improved in recent months. Hopefully the future will be much brighter and positive now that you have a new President.
