Thanks to JC for pointing me in the right direction on this wonderful piece of art.
The Christ Child -1999 - Portland Stone
The Christ Child is by sculptor Mike Chapman. It was commissioned by St Martin's for the Millenium and was the crib in Trafalgar Square in 1999.

Nestling at the top of a four and a half tonne block, the tiny baby still bearing its cord lies in the very centre of London, and was created for the Millennium celebrations to commemorate the birth of Christ.
It's inscribed 'In the beginning was the Word... and the Word became flesh and lived among us' which is from the start of John's gospel.

ReplyDeleteThat's amazing - I'll check it out on Tuesday. Funny how you miss what's right under your nose.
